What is the best way to clean stainless steel appliances? -Sandra

Hi Sandra,

The easiest and safest way to clean a stainless steel appliance is by wiping the surface down with a soft cloth or sponge using warm water and mild dishwashing detergent. Rinse off any soap with a damp, clean cloth; then dry the surface using a soft, absorbent cloth (a microfiber cleaning cloth works best). To remove grease residue from cooking, use hot water with the mild dishwashing detergent.

When cleaning and drying stainless steel, always wipe in the direction of the polish marks. This not only cleans the surface better, but prevents any noticeable scratches against the “grain” of the metal.

Glass cleaners also work well on stainless steel. Cleaners and polishes made specifically for stainless steel are available, though I wouldn’t use them more than every month or two, since they might be abrasive to the metal. Be sure to read and follow all directions when using a stainless steel cleaner or polish, and test it on an out of the way spot first.

Good luck with your project,

Danny
