Many environmentalists talk about harnessing the power of the sun, and there are some great ideas and products out there to do so. There are solar panels to generate electricity for our homes, solar water heaters to keep our showers nice and steamy, and even solar landscape lights to brighten up the yard. But all of these require some special equipment and a fair amount of technology.

But there is a low tech option—the clothesline. Line drying clothes uses no electricity whatsoever, and the UV rays of the sun actually help sanitize the laundry, and the fresh smell is unbeatable.

If you want to start small, just try line drying your towels and bed linens. Besides reducing your carbon footprint, you’ll also be reducing your utility bill and that’s something everyone can use.
