Here’s a quick checklist to make sure the outside of your home is ready for winter.

Do exterior doors close tightly? If not, repair them and replace worn-out weatherstripping. If you can’t find exact replacements, there are alternatives that can be mounted with self adhesives, nails, or screws; so they work in almost any application.

Repair air leaks around windows with a tube of caulk. If you have storm windows, make sure that they are in the place, and check them for any broken caulk beads around the exterior of each unit.

Remove any debris from window wells, and make sure that your gutters and downspouts are free of leaves and twigs, so that they can flow freely.

Finally, check those storm drains to be sure they are clean as well.
