A few simple steps taken when you open your pool will ensure a safe and healthy start to the summer. Obviously you’ll want to clean out any debris in the pool with your skimmer, pool brush and vacuum.  While you’re doing this check the pool lining for cracks and tears that may need to be repaired. You should also scrub the ladders and tighten all the ladder bolts. Petroleum jelly works well to lubricate these fasteners. Then, raise the water in the pool to the middle of the skimmer opening and be sure that the pump, filter and heater are operating properly without any leaks. Take the filter apart and clean it. Once you put it back together, let it run for at least two hours, collect a water sample and have it analyzed so you can adjust the pH and chlorine as needed to start the summer right.
