Knowing how long something will last has a big impact on what you buy, when you buy it, and how much you are willing to spend. With that in mind, listen to what the experts say about the life expectancy of some of the things around your home.

A wood deck should last about 15 years, a wood fence up to 12 years, an asphalt driveway averages 30 years. A central air conditioner should make it around 17 years, while a window unit will only last about 10.

Washers and dryers are good for around 13 to 14 years. Newer microwaves will run for about 10 years, while ranges, both gas and electric, usually keep going for around 15 years.

So, before your next big improvement, think about the numbers, prioritize your needs, and make a sound choice.
