Mower Prep

Since your mower’s been sitting idle for the last few months, it will need a little attention before you fire it up this spring.

First, remove the spark plug wire before you check the blade for sharpness and balance. If the blade is dull, remove and sharpen it. You can do this yourself, or take it to a professional. A dull blade will simply tear the grass instead of making a clean cut, and that can lead to lawn disease.

Clean the mower housing inside and out and lubricate all moving parts, including the wheels. Then, make sure to install a brand new spark plug, and fill the tank with fresh gasoline. Gas that’s been sitting in a container or a mower for a few months will potential gum up the motor.

Finally, remember to think safety when you start up the mower to take on the lawn this year.
