To provide additional interior space for a bedroom and bath on a house with a small lot, we enclosed an outdoor courtyard on the back of the home.

Steps in building bedroom addition include:

  1. Remove the existing courtyard roof
  2. Construct roof over the addition area
  3. Add and compact fill dirt for the concrete floor
  4. Pour the concrete slab floor
  5. Frame up walls for the addition
  6. Cover outside walls with plywood sheathing and housewrap
  7. Added heating/cooling unit and ductwork for addition
  8. Rough in plumbing and wiring
  9. Insulate walls and ceiling
  10. Hang and finish drywall
  11. Install doors, windows, and trim molding
  12. Prime and paint walls and woodwork
  13. Brick exterior walls
  14. Lay, sand, and finish hardwood flooring
