Importance of Proper Attic Ventilation

Providing proper ventilation in your attic is important in both summer and winter, since it will:

  • Keep your attic cooler in the summer, which can lower your air conditioner bills and make your roof last longer.
  • Reduce condensation during the winter, which can lead to mold, mildew, or rot.

    My house was built in the 1930’s There is absolutely no ventilation in the dead space overhead. We’ve been here a little over a year and obviously it’s survived over 70 years without it but I’m thinking that there should be some air flow up there. This is story and a half so roof vents would have to be front and back and there is marginal possibilities for soffit vent since not much overhang
