The paint section at a home center with hundreds of paint color choices.

When deciding on the color to paint a room in your home, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Bedrooms benefit from cooler colors, such as greens and blues, since they have a calming effect that will help you relax.
  • Rooms for entertaining—like a kitchen, living room, or den—are a good place to use warmer colors, such yellows and reds, to liven up a room.
  • Neutral and lighter colors are great for opening up small spaces as well as blending colors from different areas together.
  • Darker colors can make a bold statement, but they also can make a room seem smaller.

It is also a good idea to go for lighter colors when painting a kitchen. Warm colors are just as great, but light colors would work wonderfully too! I love the way white can really open up a space and make it appear larger and brighter. I would love for my kitchen to have that feel, so I think white would be the best option for that area of my home.

The interior of my house needs to be repainted and so I really appreciate the four tips that you put up above. There is one room that I want to paint the walls purple, but I hadn’t considered that it might make the room look smaller. Perhaps I will change the color scheme for that room to lavender so that it doesn’t seem so confining in there.
