ASK DANNY: How to Repair a Water-Damaged Cabinet

By: Danny Lipford

Water-damaged cabinet

Placing a paper towel holder beside a cabinet has led to water damage in Ann in North Carolina’s home. Home improvement expert Danny Lipford has a solution for this.

Danny,
I have a kitchen cabinet that needs repair.
[The] paper towel holder is on the side of the cabinet … Water has dripped down from the paper towel holder. The bubbling was caused by the water dripping from our hands [after] getting to the paper towels. [See photos.]
How do you recommend I repair the damaged side of the cabinet?
Ann in North Carolina

Ann,
You will need to scrape off the bubbled area using a putty knife. Then patch using a wood putty, not spackling.
The tricky part will be matching the paint for a touch-up. If you do not have the paint, consider taking a cabinet door or drawer with you to the paint store.
Thanks so much for following us on Facebook; best of luck!
