Homeowner’s Guide to Cabinet Hinges

Decorative Surface Mounted Hinges
A wide variety of decorative hinges are available for both flush and 3/8” inset doors. They attach to the outside of the face frame and cabinet door, with both sides of the hinge visible when the door is closed.
Decorative hinges may be butterfly shaped, “H” shaped,” or “T” shaped. Most decorative hinges are for flush doors, but offset options are also available for 3/8” inset doors. These hinges are usually not self-closing and are better suited for lighter weight doors.
Uses: Face frame cabinets with lipped or flush doors.
