Long Lasting Beauty: Caring for Your Composite Deck

Not all composite decking manufacturers offer a 20-year stain and fade warranty (Fiberon offered the industry’s first warranty of this length), so to keep your composite deck looking the same as the day you installed it, follow these helpful care and maintenance tips.

Cleaning your composite decking

  • Ventilate – make sure there is adequate and unobstructed air flow under the deck to prevent excessive absorption
  • Mind the Gap – keep the gap between your decking boards clean. If gapping becomes clogged, use a garden hose, a spatula, putty knife, or similar tool to remove the debris.
  • Clean Your Deck – composite decking materials are pretty resilient. To maintain that ‘just installed’ look, clean your deck twice each year to remove pollen, organic debris, dirt or stains.

Caring for common problems

  • Dirt and Grime – a broom or a blower will work better than a hose for removing scattered organic materials like leaves. Dislodge accumulated dirt with a broom or by using soap and water and a scrub brush.
  • Oil and Grease – speedy clean up is best. To clean up grease and oil stains that soap and water cannot remove, use Corte Clean or other commercial deck cleaners designed specifically for your type of decking.
  • Marks and Scratches – Welcome mats or grill mats with a rubber or latex backing can mark your deck. The marks can be removed, but to avoid them, use vinyl-backed mats or colorfast woven rugs only.

It’s more than a deck; it’s a special oasis in your home where you can relax and enjoy. Make outdoor living everything it should be – memorable, beautiful and long lasting. Get more helpful composite decking cleaning tips at http://www.fiberondecking.com/design/careAndMaintenance.
