Before you can protect your deck, you’ll need make sure you clean it well, so that the stain or sealer will have a better chance to soak into the wood. A commercial deck cleaner or a deck brightener will prepare the wood without damaging the fibers like bleach will. Scrub the cleaner into the deck with a stiff nylon brush, then rinse clean.
After the deck has dried for at least 24 hours, you can apply the sealer or stain for super penetration and transparent iron oxides to block the sun’s rays.
Use a pump-up garden sprayer or a roller to apply the stain. Then back-brush that area before applying more elsewhere. This process forces the sealant down into the pores of the wood to provide maximum protection from the effects of sun.
