Tips for Choosing the Right Bathroom Tile Grout
Here’s a question from our 6/8/2019 Today’s Homeowner Radio Show.
Sarah from Oklahoma says, “My husband and I are tiling our bathroom ourselves. We’ve watched the videos on how to do it and bought all the materials except the grout. There are so many kinds to choose from — sanded or un-sanded, pre-mixed or mix it yourself… What do we need?”
We tell Sarah some grout products can only be used with grout joints of a certain size, so you have to take that into consideration — or just choose a product that has the flexibility to be used in a wide range of joint sizes.
Pre-mixed grout is more convenient, but that’s a convenience you pay for so I wouldn’t let that drive my choice too strongly. Staining is always a big concern with grout, so stain resistance is important too, as is finding the right color.
Custom Building Products took all of that into consideration when they developed Prism Ultimate Performance Cement Grout. It works well for joints from one-sixteenth of an inch up to half an inch. It’s highly stain-resistant and it provides uniform, consistent color in up to 40 different shades.
Plus, it’s a lightweight formula, so it’s easy to use and spread and that’s a big deal for first-time tile setters like you and your husband.
