Tips for Making a Bathroom Wheelchair Accessible

Here’s a question from our 7/6/2019 Today’s Homeowner Radio Show.

Rosalind in Texas says, “How do I install an [Americans with Disabilities Act]-approved toilet? How do I take a frame off a door to widen it for a person in a wheelchair?”

We tell Rosalind that widening a doorway is a tricky project.

Above the door is a header that supports everything above it. This needs to be removed and replaced with a wider header before any additional work can be done.

We recommend checking with her local home builders association to see if she can find the right person for the job.

Listen above for the segment, which includes more tips for making a bathroom ADA compliant!
