Belkin Conserve Surge Protector with Wireless Remote Switch
By: Jodi Marks
The Belkin eight outlet Conserve Surge Protector (model #BG108001-04) not only protects your computer, TV, or stereo from harmful power surges; it also can save energy by turning off items plugged into it when they’re not in use. That’s because many electronic devices continue to draw power even if they’re not being used.
Two of the eight surge protected outlets stay on at all times. The other six can be turned on and off from up to 60 feet away using the wireless switch, which can be mounted on a wall for easy access.
The Belkin Conserve Surge Protector has a 4′ cord and is rated for 15 amps. It comes with a $100,000 connected equipment warranty and is available at The Home Depot.

Jodi Marks: Did you know that even though your TV, your computer monitor, or your stereo equipment is turned off at the switch; if it’s plugged into the wall, it’s still pulling power from your power grid, and that’s running up your monthly energy bill.
Well, what you can do is you can unplug all of those, and that way it won’t pull the energy. But that’s not really convenient, especially if you have an entertainment center or everything’s plugged up behind a desk.
Well, here’s a good solution for you. Belkin has come out with this little energy saver surge protector. It’s got eight plug-ins, two of which stay active all the time—so they stay on. But the other six, right here, are controlled by this. Now, I’ve got it mounted up here on a display for you to take a look at.
There’s a switch that comes with this. This is wireless and you can put this up to sixty feet away from this surge protector. Mount it on the wall, say next to the light switch as you enter the room. And that way if you want to turn on your TV or computer—turn the switch on, and it’ll light up these six, right here, and you’re ready to go.
At the end of the evening, when you’re done watching your TV or you’re finished working on your computer, all you’ve got to do is turn the switch off. It shuts everything down, and that way you’re not running up your energy bill.
It works as a surge protector, so it’s great if you’re in an electrical storm—it won’t damage your equipment. But the best thing is it’s going to save you every month on those energy bills.
