When a towel bar in a bathroom isn’t attached directly to studs, it can often pull loose from the wall over time. To repair a loose towel bar:

  1. Remove the exiting towel bar from the wall.
  2. Widen the holes in the wall to accept toggle bolts.
  3. Insert the toggle bolts in the holes in the wall.
  4. Tighten up the toggle bolts using a screwdriver.
  5. Reattach the towel bar on the hanging hardware.

When a towel bar won’t stay put because it isn’t mounted into the studs, one of the best solutions is a toggle bolt. First, insert the bolt through the mounting hole in the bar, and then thread on the spring loaded toggle. You may have to open up the hole in the wall a bit to accept the toggle before you squeeze it together and push it through.

Once the toggle opens up inside the wall, put a little outward pressure on the bolt as you begin to tighten it, in no time it will tighten up to hold the bar securely.
