Cleaning Narrow-Neck Bottles and Vases

By: Joe Truini

Here’s a trick for cleaning a vase or bottle with a narrow neck, without using a bottle brush. All you need is:

  • Warm water
  • White vinegar
  • Liquid dish detergent
  • Uncooked rice

Add the ingredients to the bottle and swirl. The rice acts as an abrasive to break up the stain. Watch the video for details.

Then I would just say pour it through a strainer to sift the rice as an additional step. All the same, great recommendation!

I am with Carole about dumping the rice down the drain. Another way is cut a sponge in half, make a slot in each half, slip in magnets, put one inside the bottle and use the other one outside to scrub the bottle, or you could use a bottle brush.

How could you suggest pouring uncooked rice down the drain ? You better plan on showing how to unclog the drain. Normally really like show, but this tip really disappoints me.
