When to Use Leftover Paint?

By: Danny Lipford

Can of used red paint.

I have some paint that is two years old. Is it still good to use? -Lloyd

Hi Lloyd,

If your paint hasn’t been allowed to freeze and hasn’t dried up in the container, it should be okay.

Stir it well, strain it through a piece of screen wire, and try it on a spot to see if it dries properly before painting with it.

Good luck with your project,

Danny

Hi, Keith! Paint generally can endure a few freeze/thaw cycles. You should check the paint after a freeze/thaw cycle and determine whether the color and consistency are comparable to your expectations. Thanks for your question.

Behr Deckover water based deck paint that has been frozen. It’s very expensive. If I stir it well, can it be used?
