Attractive outdoor lighting doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. The mistake most people make is doing too much. In most cases a little subtle, indirect illumination is all you need. And rope lights, or cable illumination systems, are a great way to do that.

These lights, which are contained in flexible clear tubing, can be bent, curved, or shortened to fit almost any application. It’s great for outlining the perimeter of decks, under hand railings, or along stairs to light the way.

The soft, indirect glow of these ropes is much easier on the eyes than a pair of bright flood lights. And because of their small size and the fact that you don’t have to hide any wires, installation couldn’t be much easier. The only limitation is budget, time, and imagination.
