What to Consider When Remodeling a Basement
By: Danny Lipford
Basement renovations are very popular since many of the necessary elements—including the floor, ceiling, and walls—are already in place. The most important concern that needs to be addressed in a basement renovation is moisture.
Start by caulking and sealing the inside walls and diverting rainwater away from the foundation. If that doesn’t solve the problem, you may have to dig around the outside and waterproof the foundation.
Adding larger or additional windows can help with light and ventilation, as well as providing an exit in case of fire or other emergencies.
